Nostalgia Skateboards
Croatia Tour 2019

Words by Ben Colvin

Being able to see the ocean on the daily is something you can achieve if you were born on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but not if you are Austrian. To drive for hours and through other countries just to see the ocean must make the experience that much greater, so to pick out Croatia as the destination made total sense for a bunch of land-locked-locals.

ZAGREB

Once the crew was assembled in the Weiermair bus which was hella comfy and 10 times NO 100 times better than FlixBus we were on track to touch down in Zagreb as our first stop. After arriving and checking into our decent hostel we were off to the first spot and to meet our local tour guide Antonio Pekovic.

Extremely guttered to hear that our first spot will be Zagreb‘s MACBA (Galerie d‘Art), which was potentially the most iconic skate spot in Zagreb, was now a bust and would get tickets from police if caught skating, so we moved on and began an extremely eventful day. (We did come back and we did skate and we did film and we didn’t get tickets)

Skating all day, spot after spot and stacking clips we ended up in the heart of Zagreb drinking Croatia’s finest beers and skating until the night’s end.

RIJEKA

When we got to the stunning costal town of Rijeka we were all blown away with it’s magical scenery and we were ready to dig in.  The next couple of days were unreal. Antonio Blazicevic, the man! Showing us epic skate spots, food spots and old abandoned buildings made this trip all time.

Photos and logging tricks became somewhat easy with the amazing spots we got to skate. A Mike G hammer sparked the need for 3 bag loads of beers, well overdue at this stage of the day.

As we walked through the bush to a magical DIY Spot in an old Militarybuilding we were greeted by a bush fire on the other side of the valley.

With the temperature mid-20 the fire was only getting bigger and bigger. While skating, shooting photos and sipping beers at the DIY, the now

large fire was under control by an Airplane swooping down over head and dumping water on the flames, gnarly to see and experience with all this action happening just 150 meters away.

More beers, A swim at the abandoned torpedo building and a cuddle with our bed bugs the size of Konsti’s sw flips topped the day of to this unbeatable skate trip.

This particular afternoon and along with the rest of the trip was a massive success, we got what we came for... memories, memories were created and previous memories were told, friends were made in all shapes and (bug) sizes.

Thanks for the good times!
